Metropolitan, now Hammersmith & City

Notting Hill station renamed to Notting Hill & Ladbroke Grove. It is now called Ladbroke Grove.

1880-03-01

District

Extended the line south from West Bromton to Putney Bridge & Fulham (now Putney Bridge), via Walham Green (now Fulham Broadway) and Parsons Green.

1880-08-02

Metropolitan

Extention from Willesden Green to Harrow On-The-Hill (then Harrow). The only intermediate station was Neasden (then Kingsbury & Neasden).

1882-01-20

District

Hammersmith station burnt down, It was rebuilt in 7 months.

1882-07-10

Metropolitan

The single line between Baker Street and Finchley Road was doubled. This section was to be a major bottleneck until the Stanmore branch (opened by Metropolitan 1932-12-10) was taken over by the Bakerloo line 1939-11-20, at the same time new tube tunnels opened between Finchley Road and Baker Street. This simply moved the bottleneck to the Bakerloo line, south of Baker Street.

Metropolitan, now Circle

Opened an extension from Aldgate to Tower of London. It is on the same site as today's Tower Hill. The latter station was on another site, slightly to the west, between 1884-10-06 and 1967-02-04.

District

Started serving Ealing Broadway (main line station), Castle (ealing Dean), Hanwell, Southall, Hayes, West Drayton, Langley, Slough and Windsor.

1883-05-01

District, now Piccadilly

Opened a branch from Mill Hill Park (now Acton Town) to Hounslow (now closed). Intermediate stations were South Ealing, Boston Road (now Boston Manor) and Osterley & Spring Grove (close to today's Osterley).

Hounslow station renamed to Hounslow Town (now closed).

1884-07-21

District, now Piccadilly

Opened a branch from Osterley & Spring Grove (close to today's Osterley) to Hounslow Barracks (now Hounslow West).

1884-08-08

District

West Drayton station (between Ealing Broadway and Windsor) closed. A new station with the same name opened the next day.

1884-09-07

District

Slough station (between Ealing Broadway and Windsor) closed. A new station with the same name opened the next day.

1884-10-01

District and Metropolitan, now mostly East London

Started a service from St.Mary's (now closed, sited east of Aldgate East). The line (opened by East London Railway 1884-01-01) then curved south and made a connection with the main ELR, serving the stations Shadwell, Wapping, Rotherhithe and Deptford Road (now Surrey Quays) and terminated at two separate stations, both called New Cross (Metropolitan's New Cross is today's New Cross. District's New Cross is now closed, sited close to the present New Cross Gate station.) The connection to the rest of the District and Metropolitan opened 1884-10-06

1884-10-06

District and Metropolitan, now also Circle

The circle line as we know it today is finally finished, by connecting Mansion House and Mark Lane (slightly to the west of Metropolitan's Tower Of London, which closed 1884-10-12). This part of the line was built jointly between District and Metropolitan. The intermediate stations were Cannon Street and Eastcheap (now Monument).

District

A connection from Mark Lane (now closed but near Tower Hill) towards Whitechapel (Mile End) (now Whitechapel) opened with the intermediate station Aldgate East (not on the same site as today's station) and St. Mary's (now closed). The Metropolitan also served Aldgate East from the same day.

Metropolitan

A connection from Bishopsgate (now Liverpool Street) towards St. Mary's (now closed) opened with the intermediate station Aldgate East (not on the same site as today's station). The District also served Aldgate East from the same day.

1884-10-12

Metropolitan

Tower of London station closed, replaced by Dictrict's Mark Line, which opened 1884-10-06 slightly to the west.

Metropolitan

Eastcheap station renamed to The Monument, now called Monument.

Extension from Harrow On-the-hill (then Harrow) to Pinner.

Finchley Road renamed to Finchley Road (South Hampstead). It was renamed again to Finchley Road around 1914.

Shaftesbury Road station renamed to Ravenscourt Park.

Extended the line over the Thames from Putney Bridge & Fulham (now Putney Bridge) via East Putney, Southfields and Wimbledon Park to Wimbledon.

Extending the line from Rickmansworth via Chorelywood (then Chorley Wood), Chalfont & Latimer (then Chalfont Road) to Chesham.
